The following is a letter sent to me from Nintendo Of America. This was in response to several "bonus" photos I sent regarding my Rambi glitch. I did not give them any indication as to how the glitch was accomplished. The Donkey Kong Country photos were sent along with some photos of Super Mario Kart scores. April 14, 1996 Dear David: Thanks for writing to Power Player's Arena. I appreciate having this opportunity to be of assistance. We have received your entry for the Arena Challenge and have forwarded it to our Publications department for review. Your score will be tough to beat, David. Thanks for taking the time to enter the Arena! You also sent some pictures of quirks you have found in Donkey Kong Country. Some games have minor programming inconsistencies that can occur infrequently during game play. Considering how rare these quirks are, the programmers do an excellent job locating them. Most quirks can easily be avoided, and because they do not adversely affect game play, we see no reason to alter the programming. In fact, our top players usually consider them special tricks and bring them to our attention when they discover them. [... The letter goes on, but I'll cut it short here.] Thanks for writing, David. Remember, the best play here! Sincerely, NINTENDO OF AMERICA, INC. Timothy Casey Consumer Service Representative [Below are some of my personal thoughts of the letter] As you can see in the above letter, the programmers of Donkey Kong Country were not aware of this big glitch. Furthermore, they did not realize just how serious the glitch actually is, since it can freeze up the game, and possibly corrupt game data, although it is quite Rare. (No pun intended.) :) They just passed it off as something that does "not adversely affect gameplay". Had they known just how serious the glitch can be, I believe that they would have highly considered removing it from the game, possibly even re-releasing it. So you may be wondering why I included this letter on my website. Am I trying to crack down on Nintendo? Not at all. I can understand their ignorance of the glitch, since I have had some experience with programming. It is virtually impossible to make a glitch-proof product, no matter how much time is spent on beta testing. I also have some experience in this category as well, and I have been known to find things that nobody else ever thought of. Every game will have its share of glitches, and some games will still have severe glitches intact. Even the "Nintendo Seal of Quality", as great as it may be, cannot guarantee that you won't find glitches like this one. So be cautious always when you play games. You just never know what you might find...
