approximately 10 seconds per lap.  My personal best lap score so far is 19.03 
seconds, and that was only with one mushroom.  Thus, contrary to popular 
belief, it is theoretically possible to attain a score that is less than one 
minute if my shortcut is used on every lap.  I have not done his yet, but with 
practice, I eventually will get a score that is less than one minute.  I am 
well-known on the net for some of my (in)famous shortcuts on the original SMK, 
some of which have not been discovered by anyone else other than myself to 
this very date.  I plan on sending my score to Nintendo Power as soon as I 
break the one minute barrier.  Good luck with my shortcut -- it's EXTREMELY 
difficult to pull off.
